Lebegge at the treble

Real Sociedad win their first European trophy thanks to Johnny Lebegge producing a man of the match performance in collecting the match ball.

The teams were evenly matched for the majority of the game but Monaco's defence could not handle Lebegge.

After a tentative start, he assisted Furo Iyenemi into giving Sociedad the lead with a sweet pass through Langford, Rodriguez and Harkness. Furo was found with only goalkeeper Luginger in front of him and kept his composure to succeed in the challenge.

This opened the game up and half chances came for both sides. Unfortunately for Monaco, they could not match the clinical Lebegge who powered a header from a corner straight past Luginger in the 38th minute to give Sociedad some daylight.

The 2nd half started with Lebegge looking like he hadn't had a half time break as he scored within seconds by intercepting a loose pass from Mark Broad and rounding the keeper to make it 3 nil.

With nothing to lose, Monaco opened the game up and made a breakthrough after a lazy pass from Iva Anale which Dusan Belic intercepted. He threaded it down the right for Djorkaeff and then a brilliant one-two between Djorkaeff and Persico, before a simple pass to Mamadopu Tall, left Tall with an open goal, which he duly despatched the ball into.

However, the potential comeback was short-lived because Johnny Lebegge had headed the ball into the net again 4 minutes later, from a Craig Young free kick.

With a 4-1 lead, Sociedad then attempted to take the sting out of the game and, partly due to the number of niggly fouls, Monaco couldn't get going.

So congratulations must go to Real Sociedad on being the best team in Mystify for season 37.
