Nervy European victory for Romanians

FC Dunarea Calarasi won the European cup at the 4th attempt this season after being knocked out at the semi-final stage during the previous 2 seasons, scraping through on penalties after a tense nil nil draw with English side Everton.

The game was just about edged by Everton in terms of possession and shots but neither team had a clear cut chance throughout the whole game with the both teams nullifying each other in the centre of the pitch and the ball rarely breaking into good positions with space to run into. The few chances that were had, were mainly from outside the box and high, wide or easily within the keepers grasp.

The best chance of the whole game was actually from a FC Dunarea Calarasi corner when a momentary lapse in concentration by the Everton defence left Giuseppe Fulvo unmarked but his header went flying over the crossbar.

As the game progressed into Extra Time, you could sense it was going to go to the lottery of penalty shoot out and so it proved. Adrian Bercaru scored the winning penalty after Cédrik Ramos had joined Eric Cantona in missing his 11 meter shot.

FC Dunarea Calarasi will be back to defend their title next season.
